Electrical Engineering Department

INTRODUCTION

Department of Electrical Engineering, POLIMAS is an important department in carrying out its responsibility to produce quality and competitive human capital. Graduates produced by the Electrical Engineering Department, POLIMAS are often in high demand by the public and private sectors of the country.

The department is headed by a Head of Department and assisted by Head of Programme for Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Head of Programme for Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Communication) and Head of Programme for Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Communication). This department also has a pool of 78 lecturers, two Laboratory Assistants, an Assistant Engineer and an Operation Assistant.

  2. Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Communication) - DEP
  3. Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering - DEE

DIPLOMA IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Diploma in Electrical Engineering disciplines include electrical engineering with emphasis in the areas of power generation and transmission. This program was designed with the knowledge of the electrical and electronics which includes the principles of electricity and electronics, and basic computer programming, semiconductor devices, wiring, power systems and computer aided design that provides flexibility for graduates. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped with specialized courses covering Power Protection System, AC and DC Motor Control, Power Electronics and Electrical Maintenance. Apart from technical knowledge and skills, the program also emphasizes the development potential of the individual student in an integrated and holistic manner through courses in Islamic studies, moral studies, extra-curricular activities, soft skills and entrepreneurship.

 

Programme aims

Produce Diploma  in Electrical Engineering graduates who will have  knowledge, technical skills ,  communication skills and attitude to adapt  themselves with challenges and  new technologies advancements in the electrical  and electronics field.

Programme Learning Outcome


Upon completion of the programme, graduates should be able to:

  • apply technical knowledge and social science/humanities knowledge to well defined electrical and electronic engineering problem and to the personality development of individual respectively
  • solve well-defined electrical and electronic engineering related problems systematically by applying critical thinking skill and using appropriate tools and techniques
  • analyse and investigate well-defined electrical and electronic engineering problems
  • design well defined engineering solutions for electrical and electronic engineering systems
  • demonstrate practical skill in utilizing modern electrical and electronic engineering tools and design packages
  • communicate effectively with the engineering community and the society at large
  • demonstrate awareness and consideration for societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities, taking into account the need for sustainable development
  • engage in independent acquisition of new knowledge and skill, and recognize the need for professional development and information management

DIPLOMA IN ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING (COMMUNICATION)

Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Communication) is a subfield of the wide electrical and electronic engineering scope. This programme is designed with the basics of computer programming, basic communications systems, semiconductor devices, electrical wiring and computer aided design. Courses of specialization involved in this program are telephony, optical fibre communications, data communications, wireless communication and microwave devices. Apart from technical knowledge and skills taught, this programme also emphasizes on the holistic development of students through supporting courses such as co-curricular activities, soft skills and entrepreneurship.

The Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Communication) graduates in Polytechnics, Ministry of Education Malaysia will have the knowledge, technical skills, communication skills and attitude to adapt themselves with new technological advancement and challenges in the field of electronics communication.

 DIPLOMA IN ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING

The Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a 3 year full-time programme comprising of six semesters coursework with one full semester of industrial training built-in. Students will be exposed to a solid foundation in the technical knowledge and necessary skills, related to the field of electrical and electronic engineering.

The Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is designed to cover the broad discipline of electrical and electronic engineering. The broad-based electrical and electronics foundation of which includes electrical and electronics principles, computer fundamental and programming, computer aided design, communication systems, wiring installation, power system, electrical machine and programmable logic controller. The knowledge and skills coverage of both fields would provide graduates with a wider range of employment opportunities.

Apart from the technical knowledge and skills, the programme also emphasizes on the development of the individual potential in an integrated and holistic manner through courses such as Islamic studies, moral studies, co-curriculum, soft skills and entrepreneurship.
