Introduction

This Unit was formally set up in POLIMAS on the establishment of the post for a Multimedia & Resource Officer in 2002, with the development in the emphasis given by the Technical Education Department, Ministry of Education Malaysia to the application of Multimedia technology in teaching.

The primary function of this Unit is supportive in nature, that is, mainly to facilitate the needs of the various departments in POLIMAS from time to time. The Unit's main contributions are in the following areas:-

• Providing audio-visual backup for events and functions
• Designing/creating multimedia presentations for special events
• Video shoots and coverage of events inside and outside of POLIMAS
• Photography work
• Photo-editing work for The Annual Report, Media POLIMAS, Convocation Programme Book and other publications.
• establishing still and video image bank for POLIMAS

The Unit is leaded by Mr. Yong Kim Chea and assisted by En. Azizan bin Ismail, which has since been incorporated into the Multimedia and Resources Unit in the areas of live video coverage and video editing editing work for special events held in POLIMAS. Examples of such events were:-

• Inter-Polytechnic Robotics Contest for the Datuk Rafei Cup
• Inter-Polytechnic Taekwan-Do Competition
• Polimas 17th. Convocation Ceremony
  

The Unit has support staff from various departments, particularly from those in the Electrical Engineering Department whose forte in video and other similar forms have proven invaluable to the Unit's running each year.

Besides the above-mentioned tasks, the unit also maintains a resource centre with internet access facilities, mainly for students. This centre is named the AMD Lab for the support we received from Advanced Micro-Devices in the form of PCs.
